Opening the Windows’ Tour again

Windows Tour, 30th July 2020
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped provide food and host 20 Friends of the Botanic Gardens in a successful visit on Thursday. Covid-19 hygiene requirements make hospitality more challenging, but led by the indefatigable Sue, the team of Ann, Dawn, Fiona, Ruth and Elizabeth coped admirably and raised more than $200 from sales of books and cards. – Julia

All Souls in action: Piano making music in its new home

Pupils at Sturt Street Community School (SSCS) are making good use of a piano donated to the school by All Souls’ Anglican Church late last year.  According to the Principal, Darrin Briggs: “Students are playing the piano from the time that they arrive until departure time. Thank you for the gift of the piano.”

Baycity Removals and Storage kindly moved the instrument from the All Souls’ Rectory in St Peters to the school at no cost, as a service to the community.

The video clip features an SSCS pupil, Lily, enjoying the piano during a break.

Work Has Begun

YES – work has started – but it is a very small step along the long road of restoration.

  • We have repaired the returned two of our beloved stained-glass windows to their rightful place.
  • We have repaired the arch at the entrance to the church, and can now enter from the front doors.

After a flurry of activity at the beginning of our National Trust Appeal, resulting in donations of around $20,000, and the wonderful generosity of Parishioners for the restoration of the windows, it is no surprise that everyone has had other things on their minds for the past few months.

However, old buildings need constant attention, and our roof continues to leak during the winter storms.

The banner is not only intended to celebrate the START of work, but to remind parishioners and the community that we desperately need help to CONTINUE the work.  We are resuming tours of the windows, with the required health measures in place, and we look forward to welcoming more visitors to view our windows and recognise the importance of restoration of the  building.

Please contact Julia 7230 0579 or Sue 0419 745 456 for more information about tours.

SERVICES RESUME ON 5TH JULY

We are delighted to welcome our Parish Family back to share Holy Communion on SUNDAY 5TH JULY.  The 8 am spoken Eucharist and 9.30 am Sung Holy Communion services will both resume.  The traditional First of the Month 9.30 am service will include members of the Cambeltown City Band to help us make a joyful noise.  Morning Tea will be available at the conclusion of the 9.30 am service.

The extended period of isolation has not been easy for many people and it will be a wonderful celebration of resilience and faith as we gather to pray, sing and share Holy Communion in one kind – the bread.

In accordance with COVID-19 health regulations, attendees must sign the attendance form as they enter, observe hygiene and distance requirements and help with the cleaning and tidying of the church following each service.

Pentecost Celebration

On Pentecost Sunday, a neighbour from Spicer Uniting, Kate, (right) came by to share greetings and helium balloons with all Souls’ Drive-through Church. Kate is the the Pastoral Care Worker at East Adelaide School.

Church Organist Brenton also came to play the organ again, so it was a great joy to hear all the Pentecost hymns.

Pictured here at the Drive-through table are Elizabeth and Andrew.

Drive-through church!

On Sunday 24th May, Rev’d Julia and Pastoral Assistant Elizabeth  met with parishioners who drove through the car park for a chat, some prayers and blessings.  This offered a safe opportunity to begin the road to recovery for the Parish by allowing parishioners to reconnect with each other and the church.  Below, Elizabeth and Helen enjoy fresh air and the morning sunshine.

Morning Tea together, separately

While we can’t stay after services to share a cuppa and a biscuits, a few parishioners gathered around individual computers and shared a few minutes of time.  It was good to see friendly faces and chat about what is happening as we settle into a new way of life for the time being.

ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day could not be ‘cancelled’ by the threat of a viral invasion.

Families stood at their gates and observed the rising of the sun as they listened to broadcasted  memorial services from around Australia.

Bishop Denise Ferguson also provided a  ANZAC Day Reflection for a special day of remembrance.

Repairs to the Church

Once again, we can enter the church through the front doors!

G-Force craftsmen have completed the repairs to the archway at the entrance to the church and have removed the safety fence that has been in the church since early February.  We are grateful for the swift attention to this issue and look forward to the day when we can once again open the front doors of the church.

While the scaffolding was still in place, Julia was permitted to take a closer look at the repairs, and to also view the church from an unusual altitude!

Easter 2020

“He is not here;  He has Risen!”

Reading Rev’d Julia’s Easter service will offer guidance with prayers, explanations, readings, sermon and blessings, among other valuable resources for celebrating Easter in isolation.

Julia lit the Paschal Candle in the Church at 9am on Easter morning on behalf of all of us, looking forward to when we will be able to worship together again.

A small group of people joined Julia to witness the lighting of the Paschal Candle and participated in the renewal of Baptism vows on Easter Day.
